Probate

Handling the estate when a loved one has passed

We understand that it is an incredibly emotional time when a loved one has died. We work with you to handle all aspects of probate.

How we can help

When a person dies, a grant of representation (either a grant of probate or letters of administration) is often needed to allow the personal representatives to deal with the estate of the deceased. If the person who has died left a will, the executors named in the will have to apply to the court for a grant of probate to be able to administer their estate. The grant is the official document that allows the executor to gather the assets of the deceased and distribute them according to the wishes contained within the will.

If a person dies without leaving a will a personal representative may need to apply to the court for letters of administration, to allow them to administer the estate of the deceased.

In either case, our dedicated team can provide advice regarding who is entitled to make the application and what information must be gathered and provided to the court. We can also advise on any tax implications and provide guidance as to what information may need to be submitted to HMRC.
