How we can help

The Public Law Outline (PLO) sets out the duties local authorities have when considering taking a case to court to ask for a Care Order to take a child into care, or for a Supervision Order to be made.

The PLO process usually lasts for around 3 months but can be extended if there are any outstanding concerns There is a meeting arranged (at which you can take a lawyer with you, who is free via Legal Aid) which is an opportunity for the Local Authority to make you aware of the concerns they have about your child. Several meetings may take place.

At the end of the process, the parent(s) may have satisfied the local authority about the concerns raised, but if the concerns remain the local authority will then consider whether to start Care or Supervision Order court proceedings.
