Baker Street is being hailed as the new “Cool Quarter” by the Evening Gazette. Freers is now nestled amongst clothes shops, hairdressers, a Deli and a Coffee Shop. The Street has had a recent revamp and is being remodelled by Middlesbrough Council as our own Brick Lane. Middlesbrough was named as a winner of the Portas High Steet Innovation Fund. We feel very much at home amongst our new neighbours as the terms, “vintage, original and independent” all seem to fit Freers equally well.
The scheme creates incentives for both Landlord’s and Tennants. The terms of any business lease can often be instrumental in the success of a business. There are many things to consider, such as security of tenure under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 and the ability to assign the lease to a buyer in the future. A carefully negotiated and drafted lease may become an asset, but a poor one can ruin a business altogether. Freers Commercial Department is available to advise anyone considering taking or granting a new lease.
