It is with great regret and sadness that we have learnt of the closure of another established and popular firm of solicitors situated on Baker Street.
Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors ceased to practice at close of business on Thursday the 3rd of October 2013. In accordance with their professional duties, the former Partners have made arrangements for retention of all of the Wills and Deeds stored at their premises. Freers have agreed to take custody of the Wills and Deeds whilst using our best endeavours to contact all former clients in the forthcoming months to establish their specific requirements. If you believe that we may now have any of your documents please do not hesitate to contact us to confirm whether you wish us to continue storing them for you, collect them yourself, pass them on to another firm of solicitors or if you wish to make any alternative arrangements. Please note that we are likely to require from you sufficient documentation such as a passport or photo driving licence and bank statement or utility bill to prove your identity and address. It is likely to be more efficient if you telephone us to make arrangements for collection of any documents so that we have sufficient time to locate them rather than attending our offices unannounced .
Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors have informed us that there will be occasions where they have been appointed in their capacity as a firm as executors in a Will. Freers Solicitors will not be able to carry out that function because we are not acting as successors to the former partnership of Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors. We have not merged , taken over or entered into any agreement with Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors to continue their business or any part of it . If you believe that you may have such a provision in your Will you need to take further advice as to whether any further action is required.
If you decide to retain our services for the storage of your Will, we stress of that we cannot vouch for the accuracy or effect of any Will made by Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors. You should consider whether it presents an opportune moment to review your Will, particularly if any of your circumstances have changed. We will be happy to assist you in that regard should you choose to instruct us.
Freers Solicitors do not hold any of Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors closed files. Any former clients of Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors wanting access to closed files must contact the former partners direct. We can assist you with contact detaills if you require.
Any former Dobson & Sleeman clients wishing to instruct us on new matters will be very welcome. Ongoing matters must be considered on a case by case basis, in the same way as a transfer from any other 3rd party solicitor. Legally aided matters will have to follow the normal transfer procedure. All new clients transferring from Dobson & Sleeman Solicitors will be required to agree to our regular terms and conditions. All current and former Dobson & Sleeman clients are free to instruct any solicitor of their choice.
If any of the above requires further explanation or we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to telephone us on 01642 244666.
