The Virgin Money London Marathon certainly is a race like no other. Thousands upon thousands of runners take to the start line each year, encouraged at every step of the way by family, friends and other supporters, that line the streets from Greenwich to Buckingham Palace. One of those runners this year will be one of our Partners – Andrew Dixon.
Having taken part in many half marathons before, this will be the first time that Andrew has ran a marathon. As any first time marathon runner would agree, it’s simply crossing the finish line that counts and a ‘time’ after that is a bonus! “For me, it’s all about taking part, getting around the course and soaking up the spectators’ support! If my time comes in at under 5 hours – bonus!” said Andrew.
Running isn’t Andrew’s only passion. As an avid Rugby supporter and coach to his local team West Hartlepool RFU youths, it was only right that Andrew selected a charity close to home, so the RFU Injured Players Foundation (RFUIPF) seemed the perfect fit. The RFUIPF give immediate and lifelong support to Rugby players (whilst playing Rugby Union in England), who have sustained catastrophic spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries, which as a result, have caused a permanent disability. The Foundation also offers vital support and information to family members, clubs and teammates of those that have been injured. “The work that the Foundation does is amazing, as it’s not just the injured player that is looked after, it’s their whole family and team that is supported too.” Said Andrew.
The target to raise is £2,000, all of which will be donated to the RFUIPF. Watch out for our fundraising events coming soon! In the meantime, if you’d like to make a donation to Andrew’s Just Giving page, you can do so through the following link.
